LOST IN LACE

A couple of weeks ago I took a little weekend trip to Birmingham together with my boyfriend and among other, well, pretty amazing things (Justice concert, anyone?) we went to see the ’Lost in Lace’ exhibition at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Even though the exhibition ended recently I still wanted to share a couple of impressions with you as I was really fascinated by the world of lace I stepped into.

Lost in Lace: New approaches by UK and international artists

”Featuring large-scale, theatrical and visually spectacular work, this exhibition challenges perceptions of what lace can be, involving the visitor in an environment where spaces become fluid and thread creates entirely new boundaries. Many of the international artists are showing in the UK for the first time and artworks will be breaking out beyond the bounds of the gallery, into public spaces.” (lostinlace.org.uk)

BEYOND RETRO

Beyond Retro, 58-59 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7JY.

It is very, very rare to find a vintage store that not only is tidy and well-assorted, but also convinces with reasonable prices, which is why I'm all the more glad to have stumbled across the Beyond Retro Soho location recently (for more locations go to beyondretro.com). Best one in London so far. According to me anyways.

As you can probably deduce from this praising introduction, I didn't go home empty-handed, either. After a good two hours of scanning clothes racks, piling dresses, pants and skirts on my arms, running to the fitting room, selecting, discarding, reconsidering and starting the whole routine from the top, I decided to go with two pairs of what I like to call summer-granny-pants. Airy, colorful, high-waisted granny-pants that I'm planning on wearing A LOT this spring/summer. Grand total: £30. And let me assure you: I definitely could have bought more, so I suppose a little pat on the shoulder for self-control is in order. Yeah, I already did that myself.

NYFW LOOKS – A COUPLE OF FAVOURITES

New York fashion week is coming to an end today and before the fashion elite moves on to my current city of residence (aka London, baby!) to set up camp, I thought I would share a couple of my favourite NYFW looks with you. Here we go:

TIBI
Obviously the gorgeous models Kinga and Lindsey played their part in making the looks stick to mind but nonetheless I found the Tibi Fall 2012 collection to be one of the most convincing. Designer Amy Smilovic loves the minimal nineties and backstage before her Fall runway show explained how this season she combined her favorite decade—"the Narciso-wearing Gwyneth Paltrow, not the leg-baring Pucci Gwynny"—with the swinging Beatles sixties (via style.com).

SUNO
I've adored the various colorful patterns SUNO features in their collections since I first went to the Spring 2012 show last September and I was glad to see that their fall looks are just as pretty. Also, they really make me wanna start mixing and matching and going wild with all kinds of different patterns. So crazy. Plus, I'm excited to see that socks will maintain their staple-status this upcoming fall season.

THE ROW
Elegant, clean-cut, and sophisticated as ever – the Olsen twins once again knew how to impress.

BAND OF OUTSIDERS
I never would have thought that a wild-west-themed fashion show would be to my liking, but the Band of Outsiders collection really proved me wrong. The maxi dresses, skirts and coats simply blew me away. And how great is the dress on the right? Is it a nightgown? Is it a medieval underdress? I don't know, but I must have it!

RACHEL COMEY
It was the very first show I had the honor of attending in September. And just like last year, Rachel Comey came up with a throughout beautiful and very wearable collection – it was probably the one show I wanted to steal the most looks from to wear myself..

FASHION WEEK!

Behold, esteemed readers, fashion week season is upon us! Yesterday, New York opened its gates to the fashion-hungry while Paris is going to conclude the biannual spectacle on March 7th. To steer us through the turbulent month of fashion shows, Vogue has put together an A-Z guide of 26 things to look forward to, guiding us to collections on and off the runway, in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Do check it out.

And while I'm pretty psyched to follow the upcoming events, all that fashion week talk has made me quite nostalgic. I keep thinking about the good old Spring/Summer 2012 shows last September, when I was actually in New York. So to commemorate the great times I had and simultaneously get into the spirit of the forthcoming Fall 2012 shows, I dug up a couple of pictures I never published last year to share with you.

Happy fashion week, everyone!

Can you spot me? Hint: Unfortunately, I'm not sitting in the front row.. (Karlie Kloss at Oscar de la Renta)

MICHELLE

Next girl crush coming right up. Tonight: Michelle Williams playing golf, having a picnic and trying to dig up good old Alfred Hitchcock at the Hollywood Forever cemetery and funeral home in LA. Dreamy, witty, and also a teensy bit disrespectful – you just gotta love the new Boy. by Band of Outsiders lookbook! And Michelle of course. Adorable as ever. It's just as much a pleasure to see her in photographs and fashion spreads as it is on screen. I know I'll be rooting for her to win the Academy Award in two and a half weeks..

Thank you, dear Megan, for bringing this lookbook to my attention!
