CYCLING

I know, I know, I've been complaining about the weather A LOT lately. But I'm done now, I promise. Apparently, the sun has decided to show its friendly face to Londoners again. So much so, in fact, that I've been spending most of my time outside and finally got to do a lot of things I had been planning on trying for quite a while now. My new favourite pastime: hire Barclays bikes and ride along Regent's canal all the way from Dalston to Regent's park. On your way you'll come across cute cafés, beautiful residential areas, Camden Lock market and food court, and a lot of happy people. Top off the tour with a little picnic in Regent's park (our's consisted of salt and vinegar chips and diet coke) et voilà: the perfect summer day.

BY THE BEACH

jumper | Dotti

I thought it was time to take some pictures at the beach again, as long as I am so close to it. The fall/winter in Queensland is like spring/summer at home. You can still go to the beach (although Australians will tell you it's far too cold now), it's only in the afternoon that it gets slightly chilly. A maxi skirt and a cotton-knit are the perfect outfit for a day like this.

I got the skirt at this weird, very cheap clothing store when I was looking for something to tie-dye. But I didn't complain when I found they had already done that for me. Especially since it only cost me 8 bucks!

Tomorrow I'm off to Ayers Rock and then Kakadu National Park. Sabrina will keep you well entertained and I hope to return with lots of pictures of me wearing outdoor clothing of the beautiful nature.

OFF BRICK LANE

Once again, I met up with Christian, the photographer behind the street style blog The Styleograph. This time we ended up taking pictures in a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle of Brick Lane Market on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I am wearing a Topshop dress, my beloved Brahmin bag – as usual – as well as a fake fur jacket which turned out to be quite dispensable that day. I have now banished it to a storage bag under my bed in the hope of not needing it again until at least October. Let's see how that's gonna work out for me.

LULA S/S '12

via Studded Hearts

A wonderful spread from the current edition of Lula, probably my favourite fashion magazine when it comes to editorials. In the words of Wikifashion: “Lula magazine describes itself as being the kind of girl you'd have a crush on. Or be intimidated by. Her style is all old-fashioned cameras, 70's dresses, patterned stockings, heavy mascara. She'd live in an apartment where the wallpaper is peeling off, but it would be held together lovingly by a litter of poems and polaroids. Her CDs would be all over the floor, but she'd know the name of every one.”

MADEWELL FALL COLLECTION

I know, I know, it's only spring, but these Madewell Fall looks really make me look forward to the colder seasons. The collection brilliantly combines ladylike, feminine pieces with tomboyish touches. Plus, it's not that unlikely that I'll indeed be able to wear cardies and ankle boots this spring/summer in London what with the temperatures refusing to rise above 19 degrees at the moment..And even if they do, well, there's nothing wrong with a little inspiration to save for later.

WISH MAGAZINE LAUNCH PARTY

Carrie & Lucy

Carrie, Lucy & me

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to celebrate the launch of Carrie's and Lucy's Wish magazine. It was the perfect lazy, (very, very girly) Sunday afternoon with red velvet cupcakes, pomegranate iced tea, goodie bags, as well as LOTS of bloggers and their SLRs. Also, there was really no time to get bored, what with the knitting corner, fragrance experts, illustrators drawing your portrait...the list goes on. And then, of course, there was the buffet. And the cocktails. So really, there was nothing left to be desired.
Flipping through the "magazine for girls with a Peter Pan complex" it was clear from the start that this wasn't gonna be yet another glossy about keeping up with the latest trends. Rather, Wish magazine perfectly represents its creators' style and I don't doubt for one minute that this really is Carrie's and Lucy's dream publication – which gives the whole project a great deal of authenticity. And that is very rare to find these days.
Wish magazine will be available to purchase from tomorrow, Monday May 21st, at magazine.wishwishwish.net. If you think you're an early granny, like to wear dresses with Peter Pan collars, and put flowers in your hair you should most definitely get your hands on a copy.

BATHING SEASON

While bathing season in Australia is just ending, in Europe it is time to go for that shopping trip where you end up getting frustrated because the lighting in the changing room is not exactly flattering.
So let's look at how great the models wear our favourite pieces.

As you can see I haven't set my mind on one style yet. I find it very hard to find a bathing suit that I really love and since I ruined my perfect rusty orange bikini (which was cut like the red one here), I am a bit lost in bathing suit world. So let's get inspired and make up our minds later!

TROPICAL, here represented by little pineapples. I guess we all know that tropical themes are one of THE things to wear this summer and I like the fresh colors. Via Accessorize.

CROCHET, I've always wanted a white crochet bikini, but with my complexion I can't really pull that of. Maybe this black model would suit me better? Via Urban Outfitters.

RED, always pretty with a tan, and it's cut like the beloved bikini that I had. By Lanvin, via mytheresa.

SCALLOPS, another trend this spring/summer, I love the James Bond, 60ies feel it has to it. By Chloé via net-a-porter.

FLOWERS, a classic pattern and I really like the colors. By Minkpink, via asos.

NUDE, I feel a bit young for this model, but I love the color and the cut, very classy. By Norma Kamali, via net-a-porter.

BOHEMIAN, nothing wrong with some hippie style, especially to go with wavy beach hair. By Insight, via asos.

STRIPES, the classic. I like the low cut front, the thin straps and that they cross in the back (which you obviously cannot see here). Also Norma Kamali, via net-a-porter.

What do you like or don't like about them? What are looking for in a bathing suit this summer?

LEOPARD TASSEL

Shoes | oasap
Pants | Dotti

Finally got my leopard loafers from oasap.com that were on my shoe wishlist. They came with a set of pads to put in the shoe, which makes them even more comfortable. I love to pair them with my burgundy pants.

Hope you had a lovely weekend. Off to another week at my work, but soon, very soon I am flying to Uluru and I can't wait!

STUDY BREAK

sweater | J. Crew
skirt | American Apparel
wedges | Urban Outfitters
scarf | Beacon's Closet

I took a little break from hovering over my desk (or rather, kitchen table), dragged my nose out of Bourdieu's Distinction, threw on some nice clothes (because, come on, that's not really what I look like while studying) and quickly snapped a few outfit photos in the living room. Apparently, that's the only place I can take pictures at the moment. London is really living up to the wide-spread (and as I used to believe, rather untrue) cliché of being continuously rainy these days. So don't expect any outfit posts of me gleefully posing in dreamy contre-jour-photos anytime soon. Although I must say, despite all the complaining, the weather is really working to my advantage. I don't think I would get any work done if it was ACTUALLY spring right now and my friends would start having picnics in the park without me.
Now, back to the kitchen.
